Long-term corrosion

In the framework of the Working Group on Effects on Materials Including Historic and Cultural Monuments of the Economic Commission for Europe within the United Nations (UN/ECE) the effects of various air pollutants (such as SO2, NOx and O3) as well as climatic parameters (temperature, relative humidity, amount of precipitation) on the atmospheric corrosion (weathering) of various materials is studied.

As technology has evolved and as our atmosphere has come to contain increasing levels of acidic gases, the rates of corrosion have increased. An attempt is to understand the behaviour of surface changes on metals in relation to atmospheric corrosion.
