Binding Media Analyses of Modern Paintings by Py-GC/MS and FTIR/ATR

Due to the complexity of the chemical composition of the synthetic binding media detailed studies are required. For this aim at our institute these modern materials are mainly analyzed by means of pyrolysis gas chromatography in combination with mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) and supplemented with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy-attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR) methods.

Analytical Characterization of Synthetic Organic Materials in Contemporary Art Works and Study of Their Ageing Properties by Py-GC/MS, GC/MS, Raman Spectroscopy, and FTIR

Polymers are not only used as binding media or varnishes by the contemporary artists, but are also widely in use as conservation materials, such as adhesives or consolidation and coating materials.
